Remove the old guard and any adhesive residue, then clean the edge with rubbing alcohol and let it dry fully before fitting.
Measure your paddle's perimeter before ordering. A guard that falls short leaves the corners exposed, and the corners are where impact damage starts. If your rim is still intact and you only want to prevent damage, edge tape does that job with less work.
